The specialized rain sensor PCB is placed in an area where it can be exposed to rain. The PCB contains conductive tracks that, when exposed to rainwater, close the circuit due to the water’s conductivity.  When the rain sensor detects water, it sends a weak signal to the base of the NPN transistor. The NPN transistor amplifies this signal and turns on.  The amplified signal from the NPN transistor is used to drive the PNP transistor. When the PNP transistor turns on, it completes the circuit for the buzzer, allowing current to flow from the 9V battery to the buzzer.  The buzzer sounds an alarm, indicating the presence of rain. The ceramic capacitor filters out any noise that might cause false triggering of the circuit.
